You Can Forget Seven Years in Tibet

Nineteen years ago today, Melanie and I arrived in Galicia, Spain to begin what has been an amazing journey. Who would have thought that we would rent a Swiss-style house for twelve months, buy a tiny bungalow and build it into a Mediterranean-style villa, purchase a rural farmhouse, restore it and sell it to buyers from the States, acquire a romantic ruin and convert it into a luxury holiday let, build one vineyard from scratch, foster another, and make our own wine?

The beauty of Galicia can take your breath away.

Casa de Elo - Our twelve month rental home.

Perhaps not everyone's first choice

But it didn't turn out too bad.

We found our next project hiding in the Galician undergrowth.

From an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan.

Were we mad or just glutens for punishment? Project number three.

'Let's create a vineyard" - As if we didn't have enough to do.

Now, that's what I call from vines to wines.

One vineyard is never enough so we fostered another. Not a bad location.

The fruits of our labours - Forget tea vicar, mine's a glass of red.

What a journey with lots more to come.

Really enjoying escaping to the life you and Melanie have created on the other side of the world. How interesting to think that a goodly amount of other people are doing the same - a million pages read!

Wow, your pictures are gorgeous! They really show how the deep Galicia is. Although it is not the most famous part of Spain, it has a lot to offer. We discovered it thanks to Camino de Santiago and its various options. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
